CHARLOTTE?North Carolina-based Samaritan's Purse is traveling halfway around the world to try and "Raise A Village."
?
It's part of a 10-day long fundraising campaign. The goal is to help a village in Niger, West Africa. A severe drought has limited resources in that area of the continent.
Volunteers with the relief organization said some children live on just one meal a day.?
?
The campaign will help provide some basic necessities, but also teach villagers how to be self-sustaining. Country Director with Samaritan's Purse Paul?Bobbett said it does much more than that.
?
"We believe?despair can be contagious, but we hope can be contagious as well. We hope to help the village help itself, so they can survive,? said Bobbett.
?
The relief organization hoped to raise $85,000 during the campaign. So far, they've raised close to $145,000.
