Julie Jane Martin was given at least $10,000 by Cops Fighting Cancer for treatment in Colorado.
A 38-year-old woman who conned the Cops Fighting Cancer Society out of more than $10,000 has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and six years' probation.
Julie Jane Martin of Sheridan, Ore., was sentenced Friday in district court in Arapahoe County.
Martin defrauded the Aurora-based nonprofit during a 15-month period starting in 2009, according to the Arapahoe County district attorney's office.
She falsely claimed to have several forms of cancer including leukemia, cervical cancer, spinal tumors, chest tumors and kidney tumors, according to a news release from the DA's office.
Martin told foundation members that she was undergoing treatment in Colorado.
Cops Fighting Cancer helped Martin pay for lodging and travel between Colorado and Oregon. The nonprofit also paid for other health-related expenses, prosecutors said.
Martin also appeared in a Cops Fighting Cancer video along with cancer survivors who told their life stories, the DA's office said.
In October, she pleaded guilty to one count of theft.
As part of the sentence, the court ordered Martin to pay $10,425 in restitution.
